Video Review Course Release- C-ELBW & RNC-LRN

I am happy to announce the release of my two latest video review courses for the National Certification Corporation (NCC)! They are the Care of the Extremely Low Birth Weight Neonate (C-ELBW) and Low Risk Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-LRN). This in addition to my Neonatal Intensive Care (RNC-NIC) video course.

These review courses include about 12 hours worth of video lectures based on the topics listed on the NCC’s candidate guide for the exams. They also include downloadable PDF files of the lectures for you to take notes as you go along.

There are two tiers of pricing- $99/month as a subscription (and yes- you can subscribe for just 1 month!) or $299 for 6 months worth of access.

If you’re new to my website, you can look at my “about” page, but in brief, I am a neonatal nurse practitioner with over 15 years of experience working in neonatology. I have worked in a variety of settings across the United States from Level 2 special care nurseries to community Level 3s to Level 4 surgical referral centers.

I started neo baby review a few years ago because I noticed a lack of study materials for the various neonatal NCC exams- I talk more about it in this post. I started with creating question review books and am now adding video review courses. This naturally begs the question, why take a video review course?

Why take a video review course?

Many NICU nurses are well-informed on a variety of topics but most do not have in-depth knowledge on every area that is tested on the NCC exam. For example, if you work in a Level 3 NICU, you may not have a lot of knowledge regarding infants with surgical defects and how they are managed. If you work in a Level 4 NICU, you may not have a lot of knowledge with delivery room resuscitation.

It also helps you to focus on the content being tested. NICU text books like the Merenstein & Gardner one or the Gomella book are great as a reference (I am linking them here but I am not a part of an affiliate program- I just think they are excellent!). These texts are not designed to be read cover to cover while memorizing the content- there is simply too much to know for anyone to “know it all.” I designed these courses so that you get an in-depth knowledge about the topics listed in the candidate guide, but not so much that you are veering into the weeds. For example, it makes sense to learn about Klebsiella for the ELBW exam, but it is not as useful for the low risk neonatal exam.

There is also the ease and convenience of online content. I actually took an in-person review course for the RNC-NIC; this was great at the time because there was nothing else out there available. But there were significant drawbacks- it was 3 days long with hours of lectures each day. My  brain felt exhausted by the middle of the second day and I don’t think that I retained as much information. An online video course allows you the flexibility of choosing your own schedule and creating a study session based on your time availability and mental bandwidth. You can also go back and re-listen to lectures for further understanding or watch some lectures on a faster speed if you already feel comfortable with the content.

Lastly, it can be said that you could look at the NCC outline and study each topic individually with various neonatal textbooks. This may be time consuming, however, and you may not know what you don’t know while reading through the topics and it would take a considerable more amount of time. Using a video review course curated by an expert saves you time in a busy life and to zero in on what is most important.
